A 27-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of a 31-year-old man who died when the car they were travelling in plunged into an icy harbour.

Polish national Marta Herda appeared before Bray District Court where she was remanded in custody after evidence of arrest, charge and caution was given in court.

She is charged with the murder of Hungarian national Csaba Orsas at South Quay, Arklow, Co Wicklow, on the morning of March 26, 2013. Ms Hera, of Pairc na Saille, Emoclew Road, Arklow, looked extremely distressed as she was brought before the court at around 11am today.

Judge David Kennedy remanded her to prison untill October 15, when she will appear at Arklow District Court.

Ms Herda and Mr Orsas had both been living in Arklow for a number of years. Mr Orsas’ body was found washed up on Clogga Beach in Arklow – just over two kilometres from where he died near the Avoca River in Arklow, Co Wicklow, in March 2013.

He died after the car he was in went off the pier and into the water.

In August 2013, Ms Herda was questioned over the death but was later released without charge.

When the incident unfolded in March 2013, members of the garda sub-aqua unit were hampered by choppy conditions at the scene.

Mr Orsas had an address at Brookview Court, Arklow, and worked waiting tables at the Brooklodge Hotel as did Ms Herda.
