A FORMER Lord Mayor of Cork has been charged with six counts of sexual assault.
John Murray, a former Labour Party official and retired member of Cork City Council, appeared before Cork District Court.
Judge Leo Malone was told that Mr Murray faces a total of six charges of sexual assault against an individual relating to dates between 1996 and 1998.
Mr Murray, of 17 Gregg Road, Cork, denies all the charges.
Inspector Pat Meaney told the court the book of evidence was not ready and applied for a two-week adjournment.
Judge Malone remanded Mr Murray on continuing bail to appear before the district court on June 12.
The retired politician operated a successful taxi business in Cork and was involved in local politics throughout his life.
He became one of the most senior members of the Cork Labour Party and represented the city in the US during the 1994 World Cup finals.
