A drunk man had to be helped down from the roof of a pub after he got stuck "taking pictures".

Kevin Doherty was caught by gardaí at the Tramore Inn in Downings, Co Donegal.

Doherty (23) then attempted to flee the scene but was caught and arrested after 5am on July 17 last year.

He appeared at Letterkenny District Court charged with two attempts of criminal damage and one of being drunk in public.

The court was told that hotel worker Doherty, of Glencoe, Carrigart, and another man had tried to get into the pub after they had been drinking.

However, both men told their solicitor they had been taking pictures of the building and were not trying to break in.

Doherty and another man, Stephen Mitchell, of Mulroy View, Milford, said they were extremely drunk.

Solicitor Patsy Gallagher said it was lucky Doherty had not been killed. Judge Paul Kelly ordered both men to pay €200 to the local Carrigart Tidy Towns Association.
