DPP appeals 'undue leniency' in neglect case
THE Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has appealed against the suspended four-year prison term given to a Co Clare mother for the neglect of her seven children over nine years last month.
In papers lodged with the Court of Criminal Appeal, the DPP has appealed against the "undue leniency" of the sentence handed down by Judge Carroll Moran at Ennis Circuit Court in February.
The DPP made the move after the eldest daughter of the 38-year-old woman called on the DPP to appeal the leniency of her sentence.
Solicitor Patrick Moylan wrote the letter on the 17-year old girl's behalf to the DPP and he said: "We are pleased that the DPP has decided to appeal the decision."
