Developer's 'fake kidnap' trial set for March

THE PROPERTY developer accused of faking his own kidnapping will stand trial next March.

Kevin McGeever (68) with an address at Nirvana, Ballywinna, Craughwell, Co Galway is facing charges of making a false complaint and wasting garda time.

At a brief court hearing at Galway Circuit Court today, Judge Rory McCabe was informed that the case would take up to three days to hear.

The court was informed that disclosure had not yet been made by the State in the case. Mr McGeever's defence counsel made an application for a Section 56 order requesting the State to furnish the defence with a copy of any recordings of the garda questioning of Mr McGeever to be handed over.

Mr McGeever attended Galway courthouse for the brief hearing today.

The Mayo man is facing two charges under Section 12 A and 12 B of the 1976 Criminal Law Act. These relate to knowingly giving false reports and statements that an offence had been committed and to wasting garda time. The offences were allegedly carried out between January 29 and February 28 of this year.

They relate to the period of eight months from May 27, 2012 and January 29, 2013 when he initially claimed to have been abducted
