Boxer pleads not guilty to €30,000 jewellery theft

An international boxer has pleaded not guilty to the theft of items worth over €30,000 from an Athlone jewellers in 2009.

At Mullingar Circuit Court, sitting in Tullamore, Kenneth Okungbowa (24), of Apartment 2, Auburn Villas, Athlone, who was a semi-finalist in the national boxing championships and represented Ireland in an U-21 tournament, was charged with the theft of four rings at Blacoe's jewellery shop on Church Street on August 11, 2009.

The prosecution said the jury would have to determine the facts of the case based on the witness statements, only then could they make a decision. The accused should at all times have the presumption of innocence and it should remain this way until you, the jury, decide other wise. The trial continues.
