Addict jailed for his role in attack on OAP
A RECOVERING heroin addict who broke into the home of a pensioner and was present when he was tied up, doused in petrol and had his face slashed has been jailed for eight years.
Rory Gahan, Tinnahinch, Graignamanagh, Co Kilkenny, pleaded guilty at the local circuit court to aggravated burglary at a pensioner's home at Graignamanagh, Co Kilkenny on January 9, 2011.
"I accept Gahan was involved on a lesser scale and would be easily led," Judge Tom Teehan said.
"This kind of treatment of a defenceless man in his own home in the dead of night cannot go without severe punishment."
Judge Teehan imposed an eight-year sentence and suspended the final three.
