Members of the public have been warned to be vigilant against an email scam seeking personal details from recipients.

A spokesperson from the Courts Service said the emails are "spam" and "could lead to fraud".

"It is a false instrument - designed to gather details about the recipient," he said.

The email claims that the recipient has failed to appear for a jury summons, and demands payment of a €500 fine.

If recipients respond to the email, a second one will be forwarded requesting their bank details.

"Providing such information is a recipe for fraud, and has been reported to an Garda Síochána," the spokesperson added.
