
The Supreme Court is to rule on whether a Connemara man can have his trial for assault dealt with through Irish. Michael Folan (50), from Teach Mor, Lettermullen, Co Galway, is charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Noel Hill on St Stephen's Day 2008.
Galway Circuit Criminal Court heard that Mr Folan's trial cannot proceed until the Supreme Court rules on the matter. Judge Tom O'Donnell remanded him on continuing bail to February 19.
New hospital build starts in two years
Construction on the new Central Mental Hospital in Dublin is due to begin in two years' time.
A design team has been appointed to develop plans for the relocation of the hospital from Dundrum to Portrane. It is expected that construction will take two years to complete.
