THE country’s newest multi-millionaires Kevin Geoghegan and Carol Loran have collected the €10.6m cheque that will change their lives forever.

The couple, who enjoyed their first date only last month, arrived at the National Lottery’s headquarters this afternoon.

After travelling up to Dublin from Mullingar by coach along with 30 members of their families, the pair popped bottles of champagne and cheered in unison as their winnings were handed over.

Mr Geoghegan, joined by two of his three children, daughter Aoife (11) and son Fergal (14), told the Irish Independent that he is keen to maintain normality and, while he has no plans to return to work, will not be splashing out on any luxury purchases just yet.

“My kids will want for nothing for the rest of their lives and that’s the most important thing to me,” he said.

“I’m an average Joe Soap, just a regular guy and all I want is to make sure my family are well looked after.

“There’ll be no Ferrari cars or anything. To be honest, I’m going to learn to drive and then buy a Volkswagon Passat.”

While they have yet to consider potential investments with their winnings, which will be split evenly between them, Mr Geoghegan and Ms Loran are planning to take off on a romantic holiday later this summer.

“It’ll just be to get away from the limelight so to speak and really take it all in,” mother-of-five Loran said.
