Councillor quizzed over fraud

a town councillor has been arrested on suspicion of expenses fraud.

The man, who is in his 50s and from Cork, was taken to Bandon divisional garda headquarters for questioning.

The man, who is not a member of Bandon Town Council, was questioned for more than seven hours before being released without charge on Wednesday.

He was questioned under Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act.

A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The arrest followed a lengthy investigation by gardai.
