Councillor and father-of-three fighting for his life in a coma after shock collapse at home
A popular councillor and father-of-three is fighting for his life in an induced coma after he collapsed from a mysterious illness at his home.
Athlone Cllr John Dolan (FG) was rushed to Galway University Hospital last week after collapsing.
The dairy farmer, who is in his late 40s, was placed in an induced coma but it is unknown what caused his shock collapse.
Mr Dolan's colleague, Cllr Ken Glynn (FF) said the community has been left shocked.
"I have a great working relationship with John. He's a hard worker and a good man.
"I hope to God he's back on his feet as soon as possible.
"The whole community is shocked. We don't know what caused his collapse at the moment but please God he'll make a recovery. He's a young man with young kids."
Labour Cllr Johnny Penrose also sent his best wishes to Cllr Dolan.
"He's very sick at the moment. I wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully he's better soon."
Fine Gael Councillor Andrew Duncan also send his colleague well wishes at this difficult time.
"I hope he gets better soon and I wish him a speedy recovery."
Mr Dolan was first elected to office in 2007 and he is a dairy farmer by profession. He is Chairman of Castledaly GAA club and Treasurer of Athlone and district School Boy League.
