Coombe site 'cheapest' for child hospital
THE Coombe has said building the new national children's hospital beside it would be the most cost-effective option.
The maternity hospital published further details about its bid to have the new hospital located at its facility in Dublin's south inner city.
It said construction costs for the hospital at the adjoining 20.5-acre site would be just €358m.
This compares with a cost of €408m in the bid put forward by nearby St James's Hospital.
The Coombe site is made up of land from the hospital's own campus, Dublin city council and lands now in NAMA.
A Coombe spokesman said the overall cost of building the children's hospital there would be significantly less than any other tri-located site.
The Coombe submitted its proposals to the review group. The review group will report back to the Minister for Health James Reilly early next month.
