Congolese band Konono No 1, direct from Kinshasa, to debut at Whelan's
DIRECT from Kinshasa, the heart of the Congo, the Grammy-nominated Konono No 1 make their Irish debut at Whelan's on Wexford Street, Dublin, on Friday, April 12 at 7.30pm.
Konono No 1's live hybrid of traditional Congolese music and electronics features three likembe players (a traditional thumb piano), a rhythm section which uses traditional and makeshift percussion (pans, pots, car parts), three singers, three dancers – plus a sound system featuring these famous megaphones. The band have recorded with Bjork, P!nk, Herbie Hancock, and Seal.
