Confidence hit by revelations
REVELATIONS from the Anglo Tapes have dented people's confidence about their financial well-being, along with damaging the country's reputation.
The controversial tapes, exclusively revealed in the Irish Independent, caused a storm of protest. The tapes indicate that former Anglo Irish Bank executives may have tried to mislead the Central Bank.
Now it has emerged the content of the tapes has sent financial confidence into a nosedive, with the Standard Life index at its lowest since 2007. New figures show the index fell to 47.6 in the past three months, down from 50.6 in the first three months of the year. This is the first time the index has fallen below 50 since the survey began in June 2007.
