Tributes were paid as one of Ireland's longest serving Defence Force officers hauled anchor on a 40-year career.
Naval Service Commodore Hugh Tully formally stood down as Flag Officer with a special parade at Haulbowline Naval Base, in Cork, in his honour. Commodore Tully was head of the Naval Service since 2013 and, over his career, was instrumental in the transformation of the service into one of the most modern maritime forces in Europe.
Members of Commodore Tully's family attended the special ceremony, including his wife, Mairead, and children, Conor and Alice.
Commodore Tully is a long-standing supporter of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.
He is now expected to become more involved in the charity's work in Ireland.
