Colfer to cast spell at opera fest's opening

'ARTEMIS Fowl' author Eoin Colfer will be on hand to conduct proceedings on the opening night of the Wexford Festival Opera next month.

The annual quay-front ceremony will take place on October 23 and marks the start of the internationally acclaimed 12-day festival.

An estimated crowd of 20,000 will line the quay-front before a spectacular fireworks display lights up the night sky in an explosion of colour.

'Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze' will open the 62nd Wexford Festival Opera, which runs until November 3. This year's other productions are the double bill 'Therese'/'La Navarraise' by Jules Massenet, and 'Cristina, Regina Di Svezia'.
