Irish Coast Guard crews think of their fallen Rescue 116 colleagues all the time, search and rescue operations manager Gerard O'Flynn has said.

The Irish Coast Guard was honoured for its bravery ahead of the annual Rehab People of the Year awards. Speaking ahead of the ceremony - which will take place tomorrow night - Mr O'Flynn said it was particularly harrowing to lose people that you know so well.

"It's very fresh in our minds because the accidents are quite recent and investigations are ongoing, so every other day there is something that happens that triggers the memory outside of one's own personal memories," he said.
