Coast Guard warns parents on body-board danger
Q A SURFING instructor swam to the rescue of two children swept out to sea on body-boards off the Isle of Doagh beach in Inishowen, Co Donegal.
The children aged 10 and 12 were not injured and the Coast Guard helicopter was stood down afterwards.
But parents have been urged to be extremely vigilant of the dangers of children being swept off body-boards or inflatable toys. A spokesman for the Coast Guard urged parents to be careful. "If you go on a blue flag beach made sure they keep between the flags," he urged.
"You have to be especially careful with these devices as they can be swiftly swept out with an off-shore wind."
The Coast Guard explained it had been an extremely busy few days for rescue services, with a large number of families flocking to beaches and lakes due to soaring temperatures.
