Coalition reaches 'political agreement' on abortion legislation

The coalition has reached "political agreement" on the final draft of the abortion legislation.

However, officials are still working on the legal wording of the legislation.

The Government is to hold a special Cabinet meeting tomorrow morning to approve the legislation.

Ministers will hold a specific meeting only dealing with the Protection of Life during Pregnancy Bill, 2013 at 8am.

Despite suggestions the Cabinet ran out of time, in fact the legislation was not ready for signing off on.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr James Reilly will publish the report by the group of international experts into the death of Savita Halappanavar later this week
