Co Longford’s Abbeyshrule claims Tidy Town award for 2012

ABBEYSHRULE in Co Longford is officially Ireland’s tidiest town.

It took the coveted award for the first time in the history of the Tidy Towns competition.

Abbeyshrule also claimed the prize of being Ireland’s tidiest village.

Clonakilty in Co Cork was named the tidiest small town, while Westport, Co Mayo was named Ireland’s tidiest large town.

Ennis, Co Clare came first in the tidiest large urban centre category.

The awards were presented in DCU today by Environment Minister Phil Hogan.

The minister praised the 855 villages and towns who took part in this year’s competition.
