Sports clubs around the country can now apply for grants to develop their facilities after the Government announced yesterday it was allocating €40m in capital funding.
Clubs which are awarded the funding can use it to develop facilities such as new grass pitches, running tracks, courts, floodlighting, dressing rooms and all-weather surfaces.
Clubs can also spend the money on "non-personal sports equipment", such as defibrillators and lawn mowers and ultimately any projects that will increase participation in sport.
This is the third round of Sport Capital funding since 2011 and brings the total allocated to this type of development to €130m.
Minister of State Michael Ring said sport continued to have a positive impact on communities.
