Cllr John Lyons in hot water over Twitter court pic
The Irish Court Services have issued a rebuke to Dublin City councillor John Lyons over a photo taken in court without permission from the judge.
The People Before Profit councillor posted an image to his Twitter feed from Thursday’s court appearance of the five water charges protesters jailed for breaching barring orders keeping them away from Irish Water meter installations.
On Thursday, Cllr Lyons uploaded a picture of the Right2Water campaigners being led away from the court following their conviction.

A spokesperson for the Court services said such an action was in breach of court rules unless permission was given by the presiding judge.
“We have contacted the person who tweeted this image and informed them that the rules of court do not allow for the capture of images in such circumstances,” they said.
“This image was taken without the permission or knowledge of the Service or the Judge… [and] no media organisation should further publish the image.”
