
An 18-year-old Leaving Cert student has urged young people to become advocates to help halt global warming and reduce carbon emissions.
Claire Lemass, from Athlone, is the first person to be appointed a Cool Planet Champion, a joint initiative between the Environmental Protection Agency and Cool Planet Experience (CPE), which is seeking one person in each county to give climate talks to schools, businesses or the general public.
The Irish Independent is media partner to the CPE, an interactive visitor experience that is due to open at the Powerscourt Estate in Co Wicklow early next year.
Claire said: "People see it as a problem for future generations but if we don't start to prepare now, we face huge problems in the future."
