City honours The Corrs
A GRATEFUL English city yesterday presented the The Corrs with a limited edition painting of Tyneside's quayside.
It was a mark of appreciation for the group's efforts in raising more than Stg£100,000 for charity. The gift came from the staff of the Arena where the group gave two concerts, and also echoed the sentiments of 2m people on Tyneside.
They raised the money at two concerts the last on Tuesday night in memory of their mother Jean, who died aged 57 in 1999 in one of the city's hospitals while awaiting a transplant.
The money will be spent on extending a lung research centre at the Freeman Hospital. Said violinist Sharon: "It makes us cry, the support we have received."
