THE Church of Ireland will re-open its debate on homosexuality during the third day of its General Synod at Christ Church Cathedral today, writes Mark Hilliard.
The Archbishop of Dublin Michael Jackson has said he hopes a discussion would lead to greater understanding.
"We gather in these numbers and with this density once a year to enable people to express their views on an issue which is of tremendous importance in society and also within the life of the church," he said.
Responding to warnings of division and alienation from gay members of the church, Archbishop Jackson said the discussion was necessary.
"My hope is that through continuing and deepening the process of listening, and contribution and conversation, that we will come to a much greater and sustained understanding of one another. I think this is the way forward," he said.
