IRISH diplomatic efforts have failed to make any impact in China, where few business people know our country exists, a Chinese business community leader says.
The Chinese Irish Cultural Academy and the State Council of China hope to change all that with a major Chinese festival at Dublin's Convention Centre on February 1, marking the start of the 'Year of the Dragon'. The Dublin festival will be broadcast live on Chinese state TV.
Asked how Ireland performed with such cultural promotion in China, Summy Sing Wong said that cultural ties were vital to business and economic ties.
"The local Chinese community sincerely wishes for Ireland to be a strong partner with China through various channels. The Chinese Premier always mentioned that before any business deal there must be friendship built on both cultural and educational aspects," she said.
