Children's hospital hit by tender delay

THE deadline for construction and design firms tendering to work on the new national children's hospital has been pushed back again -- signalling yet more delay in getting the €650m facility under way, writes Eilish O'Regan.

The tender on the Government's official e-tenders website asks firms bidding for the multi-million euro contracts to hold off on any submissions until the end of August.

The original deadline was in March but this was extended to the end of June after An Bord Pleanala rejected an application to build it on the Mater Hospital site.

The latest tender said the contracting authority was extending the pre-qualification stage by 13 weeks until August 31.

"For the avoidance of doubt, the procurement process is not terminated. Applicants will be informed as to the status of the process at the earliest opportunity.

"In the meantime, applicants are advised to suspend work on their submissions," it said.
