Child (9) in intensive care after being hit by a train
TWO separate investigations have been launched after a nine-year-old girl was hit by a train in Co Tipperary.
The child is being treated in the intensive care unit of South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel.
The accident happened when she was hit by the Limerick to Waterford train at 7.15pm yesterday.
It is understood that the child, who has been named locally as Mary Ryan, lived near the track on Station Road in Tipperary town.
Gardai and Irish Rail have both launched investigations into the incident. The line was closed last night, but reopened this morning.
Irish Rail spokesperson Jane Cregan said that the eight passengers on the train were bused to their destination.
