Chief of staff of Defence Forces to be announced
THE Government will today officially announce the names of the next chief of staff of the Defence Forces and the secretary general of the Department of Defence.
The vacancies in the two top posts in the defence sector come about because of the retirements on age grounds of the current incumbents, Lieut General Sean McCann and Michael Howard.
The military job will be filled by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Conor O'Boyle, who has been the front runner for some time.
Maurice Quinn, who had been an assistant secretary in Defence before switching to the Dept of Transport, will become the next secretary general.
