IT has been over 20 years since the Green Army last marched to the European football finals so the Ireland team had a lot of partying to make up for.

Captain Robbie Keane led his men in the celebrations at Krystle nightclub in Dublin on Tuesday night, hours before he was due to fly back to the United States to rejoin his LA Galaxy teammates.

However, this was one celebration the Tallaght native was not going to miss as he and wife Claudine partied the night away. The nightclub echoed to chants of 'ole, ole, ole' as their football heroes began arriving in a fleet of silver people carriers.

The cheers reached fever pitch when Robbie appeared on a balcony, spraying delighted fans below with champagne.

He was joined by teammates Damien Duff and Shay Given, who waved to fans before returning to the party in the VIP area.

Also there were Kevin Doyle, Stephen Ward, John O'Shea, Darren O'Dea and Aiden McGeady. Claudine Keane later described the night as "one of the best" she could remember.

One of the club owners, Rangan Arulchelvan, said they hosted the special party as they wanted to "give something back" to the team after they helped lift the country's spirits.
