CHECKING IN HOTELIERS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE
MORE than 300 people from all over the world attended the Shannon College of Hotel Management's 60th anniversary dinner last night at Clontarf Castle in Dublin.
Among the key hoteliers who enjoyed the champagne reception followed by dinner, speeches, band and disco until late were: Garrett Ronan, VP of Harlequinn Hotels, Caribbean; Brian Segrave, GM of W Guangzhou Hotel and Residences, China; Stephen Hanley, general manager, The Shelbourne, Dublin; Nicky Logue, GM and director Fitzpatricks, Killiney Castle; Gerald Lawless, executive chairman of Jumeirah Group (he also attended the Global Irish Economic Forum yesterday); Maurice Bergin, Hospitality Solutions Consultancy and incoming alumni president; Mary Bowe, Marlfield House, Gorey, Co Wexford; David Wilkinson, former GM of the Dorchester, London and now Chief Executive of the RAC in UK and Brendan and Claire O'Connor. Brendan is founder of Alumni Association and a very successful restaurateur in Massachusetts, USA.
Philip Smyth, director of Shannon College of Hotel Management, said: "We are delighted to be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Shannon College of Hotel Management, founded by the late Dr Brendan O'Reagan.
"Three hundred graduates and guests are attending this evening's gala ball to mark this great milestone for the college, with leaders from the international hotel industry."
Mr Smyth added that alumni had travelled from Australia, Maldives, the US, the UK, China and the Caribbean to attend the event and that 14 attendees from the 1961 class were proudly celebrating their 50th anniversary.
