Charlie's bust to be set in Clare stone block

A SELF-confessed die-hard Charles Haughey fan was yesterday putting the final touches to a limestone plinth which will form part of the Dingle fishermen's monument to the former Taoiseach, to be unveiled tomorrow week.

A large block of Co Clare limestone was delivered onto the pier at Dingle this week, to be worked on by Kilnamona sculptor Michael McTigue.

The local stone is sandstone but the grey blue limestone is easier to work and will form a better contrast with the bronze bust of Mr Haughey which will be erected on Sunday week, Mr McTigue explained.

A bronze plaque to Mr Haughey is also being set into the limestone.

"I have always been a die-hard Charlie Haughey man. I always admired the man. He had vision," said Mr McTigue.
