Charity appeals for help with survey on bats
THE largest survey ever attempted of Ireland's bat population is being launched to assess whether numbers have stabilised after a population crash over the past 25 years.
So little is known about Ireland's most capable night hunters that a charity has now appealed for volunteers to support a national research campaign expected to get under way next month.
Bat Conservation Ireland (BCI) is providing equipment and support for volunteers in a campaign to obtain crucial information on the country's nine resident bat species.
"We will provide free training and supervised instruction," said BCI official Tina Aughney.
