The manager of the store where the winning Lotto ticket said one late employee this morning was the suspected winner briefly - but at the moment they have no idea who scooped the €7.5m jackpot.

Tom O'Toole, manager of the Eason's store in Thurles, said his staff are all delighted and speculating who bought the winning ticket.

"It's fairly chaotic in the shop today – our phones haven't stopped ringing," he told Independent.ie.

"We have no idea who won it yet, but we're watching all of our customers to see if there's a bit of excitement to them.

"I've been over to Dunnes Stores and gone over to get a couple of bottles of champagne just to be ready if the winner comes in."

Mr O'Toole said the news has instantly become viral on social media.

"We got a phone call late last night from lotto, informing us that we sold the winning ticket.

"We then put it up on our own Facebook page this morning and it's got over 10,000 hits already. I feel like I've won it myself with the amount of people congratulating me.

"It's our first full win – we had a shared win of €650,000 some years ago and another lotto plus win of €350,000," he said.

The Eason's manager added that at one point he thought a member of his staff was the big winner.

"One particular member of our team was nearly 20 minutes late for work this morning. I said "that's it she has the winning ticket and we'll never see her again" but eventually she trudged in after a while.

"We're just hoping that it's someone from our locality and one of our customers. We'll also get a few bob from the lotto out of it too which is nice," he said.

The lucky ticket was a Quick Pick and was sold on Tuesday.

The winning numbers were 8, 10, 11, 25, 28, 32 and the bonus was 35.

There was also a winner in the Lotto Plus 2 draw.

The golden ticket was sold in the North and has netted the player €250,000.

That winning ticket was sold yesterday at the Supervalu store on Fermanagh Street, Clones, Co. Monaghan.

The numbers selected for that draw were 3. 5, 7, 11, 22, 32 and the bonus was 36.

And it has also been revealed that a Dublin player matched five numbers and the bonus also on last night’s main Lotto draw.

That lucky player picked up a tidy €54,356 after buying their ticket in Centra on Main Street in Swords, Co Dublin.
