Champagne on ice for €7.5m jackpot winner

IRELAND's latest multi-millionaire was either unaware of their newfound wealth or was keeping a low profile after scooping a Lotto jackpot of almost €7.5m at the weekend.

The winning ticket was sold at the Kilmartin N6 Service Station just outside Athlone, Co Westmeath, just hours before Saturday night's jackpot draw.

Owner Damian Kilmartin has champagne on ice should the winner decide to drop in to celebrate their win.

"We've opened a bottle or two already . . . This is the first big win we've had and it's nice that it's such a big one," he said.

It is a dream start to the new decade for the ticket-holder who wins a massive jackpot of €7,457,357.

The service station, which is a popular break spot for motorists driving between Dublin and Galway, was very busy on Saturday as Lotto fever spread around the country.

"We get a mixture of both transient and local customers. It's a great win for somebody and I suppose we'd hope that it's someone local," said Mr Kilmartin.

"We haven't heard any rumour that it's someone from around here. Whoever has won, they haven't gone public yet," he added.

The jackpot had been rolling for the past three weeks and this is the first jackpot win of the year.
