A celebrity chef who's on the bill for this year's Taste of Dublin has turned to social media to crowd-fund his next passion project.

Dubliner Simon Lamont, who was on TV3's 'Lazy Chef', is hoping some generous strangers will shell out their cash and help him achieve his goal of setting up an oyster pop-up bar in London.

The DIT culinary arts graduate is trying to raise €3,400 to open a temporary eatery on June 23 called 'Rocks'.

"London's a great city, I've been here for six years, but I was always working for other people doing lots of consultancies and curating menus. I never did my own thing. I was always happy to stand behind someone else. So I've given myself a big under-taking, to raise the money for this pop-up in two weeks," he said.

"There's lots of talented chefs here with no funding and we all just need a bit of backing sometimes. It's always nice to start off small and then build it up gradually."

He has been getting a positive response online and has already reached a third of his target goal.

He will be jetting back to his home city this weekend and conducting a series of interviews at Taste of Dublin about his area of expertise, oysters and shellfish.

With high temperatures forecast, an estimated 35,000 people are expected to attend.
