An armed robber patiently queued up before producing a loaded handgun and making off with hundreds of euro from a Dublin shop.

CCTV footage given to Independent.ie shows the man enter the shop with his face covered. He then waits until the customer in front of him has been served.

Staff in the Spar on Thorncastle Street in Ringsend said they know the man, and described him as "a regular".

The footage shows a Spar employee apparently trying to make it more difficult for the thief by moving the till tray forward and back. However he quickly stops once the thief aggressively points the small weapon in his face.

Several people can be seen standing outside watching the robbery.

The man who was ahead of the armed robber in the queue watched for several seconds, apparently shocked, as a serious crime transpired in front of him.

An employee from the shop said that several violent crimes have occurred in the Spar, and says it's "horrible for staff".

The incident occurred just before 6pm on Saturday.

A 58-year-old man has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and robbery in connection with the incident.

He is due to appear before Dublin District court on Monday morning.

The suspect was arrested by two female gardaí who were on patrol at the time.

The pair were praised today for their quick-thinking response to the raid.
