Cash worries take toll on couples

FINANCIAL difficulties are the key cause of struggling relationships, with two out of three couples citing money issues as a reason for their problems, a new report has found.

The intense pressure in homes due to unemployment, mortgage strain and other rising costs is highlighted in the annual report from Accord, the Catholic Marriage Service.

Demand for its service rose by 12pc, with volunteers delivering an unprecedented 49,000 counselling sessions during 2011. The number of families in financial difficulty rose by 10pc, affecting 65pc of people coming for counselling to the agency.
