A NEW €150,000 fund will be used to promote careers in the arts for people with disabilities and mental health difficulties.

Rehab, a not-for-profit training organisation, has invited applications for its Visual and Performing Arts Fund which will make up to €30,000 available each year for the next five years.

The scheme is open to people interested in a wide range of visual and performing arts from painting and sculpture to film, drama, music and dance. Successful applicants will get grants of between €1,000 and €10,000 to help with their studies or a particular project.

Announcing details of the fund, Rehab Group chief executive Angela Kerins, said: "In this tough economic climate it is more important than ever to ensure that people with disabilities are helped to develop their skills and abilities and participate in economic and cultural life."

The fund is open to people aged 17 years and over who wish to pursue a career in the arts and the closing date for applications is February 28.
