The Ann Summers store on Dublin's O'Connell Street is one of the top two performing stores in the 144-store strong group across Ireland and Britain, the company has revealed.

Figures provided by the lingerie and sex toy retailer show that the two best performing stores are located at O'Connell Street in Dublin and Manchester's Trafford Centre.

A spokeswoman for Ann Summers said: "The dramatic change in attitudes towards sex in Ireland has definitely contributed towards the success."

The business is also enjoying a '50 Shades of Grey' dividend as there has been a 55pc increase in visits to its group website since the film's trailer was released, with sales of handcuffs rising by 66pc. The spokeswoman said that since the launch of the '50 Shades' movie "we've seen a huge rise in footfall and sales both in-store and online".

Accounts for the UK arm for 2014 show that the business recorded revenues in excess of £100m in the 12 months to the end of June last - accounts for the Irish business have yet to be filed for 2014. The most recently filed accounts for the UK retailer's two Irish firms showed combined pre-tax losses of €421,669 in the 12 months to the end of June 29, 2013.
