Capital brings in new rates

Dublin City Council has become the latest council to bring in charges for calling out the fire brigade.

Firefighters in Dublin warned it might deter people from dialling 999 and endanger lives of civilians and firefighters. The charges include a first-hour fee of €610 for vehicle and chimney fires and a first-hour fee of €500 for domestic fires.

A charge of €610 will also be applied for the first hour a fire brigade attends a traffic crash.

The council said all hours after the first would be charged per tender attending.
