Cannabis smokers stop to catch a puff

TRAFFIC on Dublin's O'Connell Bridge was brought to a virtual standstill for a brief time yesterday as supporters of legalising cannabis stopped to catch their breath on route to a rally outside Government Buildings.

A garda spokesman said organisers of the rally had informed them of their plans to march.

"It's a peaceful protest that's held every year and we are happy to facilitate it. There was a hold-up on O'Connell Bridge as they were walking across it that caused a knock-on effect for traffic," the garda spokesman said.
