Candidate hit by racial abuse

A FIRST time immigrant local election candidate claims he has endured racial abuse from voters telling him to "go home".

Baby Pereppadan said he had been called a "bloody Pakistani" (even though he is Indian) and had a stone thrown at his car during his campaign to get elected to South Dublin County Council.

Independent Dublin North Central TD Finian McGrath, who hosted a news conference in Dublin for Independent council candidates yesterday, said that racist attacks would not be accepted.

"It's a great privilege to see people like yourself standing up in politics," he told Mr Pereppadan.
