IT IS unclear whether it was an act of revenge, frustration, or the aftermath of the type of accident they are designed to help prevent.
But this Gatso speed camera is unlikely to be clocking any motorists in the near future as it was left leaning precariously at the roadside near Dunleer in Co Louth.
The aftermath of the damage, captured by photographer Tom Conachy, shows the fixed roadside camera bent violently at its metal post and twisted to face away from the road.
"It must have taken some immense force to do such damage, the metal was completely buckled," said one motorist. "Given that it was a speed camera, you've got to assume that someone had a grudge and put it out of action."
Gardai said that they were not aware of any collision.
