Canada to double work visa numbers
THE Irish and Canadian governments will today announce plans to double the number of visas allocated to young Irish people wanting to travel and work in Canada -- and to young Canadians wishing to travel here for employment.
Canada's Minister of Immigration and Citizenship Jason Kenney and Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore will announce a "significant change" to the current visa arrangements, it has emerged.
More than 4,400 Irish people emigrated to Canada in 2010.
Working visa fees for Canada start at €115 per person or up to €345 for a family, but travellers need to have a decent five-figure sum as proof that they can support themselves.
