Cabinet breaks up until evening with no agreement on abortion legislation

THE Cabinet meeting has broken up until 5:30pm with no agreement yet on the text of the abortion legislation. Ministers met from 10am until just after 2pm.

The text of the draft legislation on abortion legislation is the main item on the agenda.

Ministers have not yet signed off on the legislation, the Irish Independent understands.

But Taoiseach Enda Kenny has to leave to do a jobs announcement in Dublin city centre and take Leaders Questions in the Dail.

The delay in agreement on the Heads of the Bill of the Protection of Maternal Life Bill, 2013, may affect whether the draft is published tonight.

It is not yet clear if there will be agreement on the Bill by tonight.
