THE by-election to fill the seat of the late former junior minister Shane McEntee will be held on Wednesday, March 27, the Irish Independent understands.

Mr McEntee’s daughter, Helen, will be confirmed in the coming days as Fine Gael’s candidate in the Meath East by-election.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny is expected to move the writ for the by-election this week.

Coalition sources say the Government has chosen the Wednesday before the Easter weekend as the date for the by-election.
