A 1992 BMW formerly owned by Sean FitzPatrick sold yesterday for €3,150, writes Shane Hickey.
Now the anonymous buyer will have the chance of pressing the button that will turn the 3-series vehicle into a compacted square of scrap.
Bidding stopped yesterday afternoon on the vehicle owned by National Recycling Ltd, the company which bought it for €1,234.54 during the former Anglo Irish Bank chief's bankruptcy proceedings.
The company then offered the public the chance of crushing the car, with all of the money raised going to the Samaritans. The auction on eBay was run by the 'Mooney Show' on Radio 1.
A bid for €5,200 was withdrawn when the buyer backed out.
