Burton department worst for sick days
Staff working in Joan Burton's Department of Social Protection miss an average of almost two-and-a-half weeks due to sickness – the highest rate of sickness in the civil service.
These are the same staff who are responsible for paying out sick leave claims to other public and private sector employees.
The rate is more than three times as high as in Finance Minister Michael Noonan's department, where staff were out sick for an average of just under four days last year.
